Northwood University fights Michigan Tech hard in 21-6 loss

Homecoming/Auto Show crowd sees the Timberwolves put up good fight

The vastly improved Northwood University fought 1st place Michigan Tech tough in this contest on a sunny day at Hantz Stadium on the campus of Northwood University.  It was a big weekend on campus with these being the Homecoming game and the 51st annual Auto Show at the private university.  

Head Coach Pat Riepma who returned to the sidelines after a six year hiatus as Athletic Director at Northwood.  He has the Timberwolves playing winning football again coming into the contest with a 3-2 record.  However on this Saturday the 4-0 Huskies showed why they are in first place in the GLIAC Northern Division.  

Michigan Tech's defense has been playing outstanding so far in 2014.  They would limit Northwood to 2 field goals from Keegan Haggarty on the day.   Former Midland High School running back Charlie Leffingwell would lead Tech on the day with 145 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.  Northwood's Michael Fisher would lead the defense on the day with 15 tackles and a sack. 

Northwood now will take on Findlay at home and then travel to take on rival Saginaw Valley State University on October 25th in the annual Ax Bowl game.  Northwood now stands 2-3 in the Gliac and 3-3 overall.
