Seven students from Art 480 Senior Seminar class at Saginaw Valley State University have curated an exhibition as an assignment for their course.  For this assignment they shared multiple responsibilities in preparation for displaying their work in a public location. For example, searching for a local venue, contacting and solidifying their selected venue, scheduling the time period for the exhibition, installing the exhibition, selecting the artworks, drafting a contract with the venue, marketing, getting refreshments for the reception, and deinstallation.

The title of the exhibition is Mixed Media and will be displayed at Cafe 476, located at 6235 Gratiot Rd, Saginaw, MI 48638.  The hours are Mon- Fri: 7am-7pm, Sat: 7am-5pm, and Sun: 9am-5pm.  Their phone number is (989) 596-3900

The exhibition will take place from Sunday, April 24, 2022 through Saturday, April 30, 2022.  A reception will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 6pm-8pm and the artists will be present. Light refreshments will be available.

As the name implies, mixed media will be used in multiple disciplines on display, including but not limited to  ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, and sculpture.  Some works may be for sale. The artists whose work will be on display in this exhibition include: Mandy Brown, Emily Davis, Skylar Helvey, Taylor Lemke, Jericho Long, Tera Peters, and Ava Rummler.

When asked about participating in this exhibition, the various artists offered their reflections:

“I’m grateful to have experienced SVSU’s Art Management course and wish I had done so earlier in my college career. As a BFA student and aspiring artist, showcasing my artwork is a huge achievement, let alone curating an entire exhibit with my classmates.” -Taylor Lemke

“Creating an exhibit with my classmates and learning what it takes to curate one has been a fun and eye-opening experience, much like the overall class. ART 480 has been so beneficial to me; learning about careers in the arts and the business side of being an artist.” - Emily Davis

“Why not try something new.” - Jericho Long

“Having the opportunity not only to learn how to curate an exhibition, but actually getting to collaborate and curate one in which my classmates and I’s work is on display is very rewarding.  I am so excited to be having our work shown at Cafe 476 for the public to view and hope we get a good crowd at our reception.  I would love to hear peoples’ thoughts and ideas about my work and answer any questions they might have.” - Tera Peters
