The Great Lakes Loons (24-28) were brought back down to earth as a 7-game win streak came to an abrupt end with a 6-0 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Dow Diamond tonight.
Bowling Green jumped out to a big lead early in the game when shortstop Taylor Walls led off with a double, stole third, then scored on an RBI-triple off the bat of CF Carl Chester, who was driven in on an RBI-single by Bowling Green DH Trey Hair for a 2-0 lead, before Hot Rods third baseman Zach Rutherford smashed a 2-run home run, his sixth HR of the year for a 4-0 Bowling Green lead in the top of the first inning.
The Hot Rods added another run in the fourth when second baseman Justin Bridgman drove in RF Jake Stone (who had doubled) with an RBI-single for a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, before Chester scored on a sac fly RBI off the bat of Bowling Green first baseman Devin Davis for a 6-0 lead midway through the seventh inning.
The Loons and Hot Rods will be back here at Dow Diamond for the second game of this 3-game series at 7:05 pm tomorrow night.
