On a cool rainy night at the Dow Diamond the Great Lakes Loons would play a textbook game and defeat the West Michigan Whitecaps 7-0.  All the hype with the Whitecaps the Detroit Tigers Class A affiliate pitching their 2013 1st round draft pick.  Jonathon Crawford the Tigers number 1 pick had his roughest start of the season against the come alive Loons.

Crawford came into the game with a 2.18 ERA saw that quickly disappear with the Loons jumping on him for 4 quick runs.

It was to be a big night at the Dow Diamond with NASCAR driver Austin Dillon in town to promote his driving of the Dow sponsored race car.  With the rain coming down for about 2 hours straight it eliminated him throwing out the first pitch.  He did get a chance to be interviewed on Brad Golder's pre-game show and then make some visits to the corporate suites.

Jesmuel Valentin lead the Loons at the plate and starting pitcher Greg Harris was spot on tonight in allowing 2 hits and striking out 4.  He raised his record to 5-4 on the season and now is tied for the team lead in strikeouts at 52.

Great Lakes improved their record to 31-35 for the 1st half and will finish with 4 more home games before the All-Star break.  A four game winning streak against their in-state rivals would be a good way to end the 1st half at 35-35.  Thursday evening at the Dow is Dollar Night on some of the concessions and Friday evening will see one of the stars from "Duck Dynasty" be in the house.

The Loons are completing the first half of the season about the way that I had expected them too.  With no big draft choices to highlight they are getting steady play out of most players and will be sending 3 players to the Midwest League All-Star Game in Grand Rapids on June 17th.
