Loons put up 5 runs in the seventh in a 12-8 rout of the Lansing Lugnuts

Luis Paz, Errol Robinson and Cody Thomas all homered for the Loons tonight......

The Great Lakes Loons (23-24) scored 5-runs in the seventh inning after a 3-run third; while adding single runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings respectively, cruising to a 12-8 dusting of the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) in front of 3,715 fans at Cooley Law School Stadium in Lansing, MI tonight. 
 
The Loons rallied for five runs in the top half of the seventh inning for a 12-7 lead after Lansing managed to tie the game (7-7) with 6-runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. 
 
Center fielder Saige Jenco singled to lead off the top of the seventh, then moved to third on a Cody Thomas 1-out single before scoring on a sac fly RBI off the bat of third baseman Oneil Cruz (who reached safely on a fielding error by Lansing left fielder Edward Olivares) for the first run of the seventh inning. 
 
Catcher Keibert Ruiz drove in Thomas on a sac fly RBI as Cruz advanced to third base before scoring on an RBI double off the bat of DH Mitchell Hansen for the second and third runs of the inning respectively. 
 
First baseman Luis Paz (3) topped off the scoring barrage with a 2-run home run over the right field wall at Cooley Law School Stadium to drive in Hansen with his third HR of the season for a 12-7 Great Lakes lead midway through the seventh inning. 
 
The Lugnuts had managed to get to Loons starter Devin Smeltzer with five unanswered runs, while also adding a solo home run off of his replacement, reliever Andre Scrubb, to tie the game at 7-runs apiece in the bottom of the sixth inning. 
 
Smeltzer (2-2, 4.01 ERA) gave up a total of 6-runs (5-earned) on 6-hits and 5-walks, while striking out 3-batters through 5-innings. 
 
After the Lugnuts scored a single run in the bottom of the first inning, Cruz ripped a 1-out double then scored on an RBI single off the bat of Ruiz to tie the game at 1-run apiece in the top half of the second inning. 
 
Loons shortstop Errol Robinson (2) led off the top of the third inning with his second home run of the season, before Cruz drove in second baseman Gavin Lux and Jenco with an RBI single to build a 4-1 lead midway through the third inning. 
 
Robinson would go on to drive in Hansen and Paz with two sac fly RBI's in the fourth and sixth innings respectively, while Thomas (8) belted his eighth home run of the season for the lone run in the top of the fifth inning. 
 
Four different Great Lakes batters finished with multiple hits tonight. 
 
Cruz was 2 for 4 with 3-RBI's and 2-runs scored, while both Thomas and Hansen were 2 for 4 with an RBI, 1-walk and 2-runs scored each respectively. Paz finished 2 for 5 with 2-RBI's and 2-runs scored. 
 
Robinson was 1 for 2 with 3-RBI's, while Jenco was 1 for 3 with 2-walks and 2-runs scored and Lux was 1 for 4 with a walk and a run. 
 
Scrubb (1-0, 3.38 ERA) despite his second blown save of the season, went on to earn the win after giving up 1-run on 2-hits, while striking out 1-batter through 1-inning. 
 
Nolan Long (7.71 ERA) gave up 1-run on 2-hits and a walk, while striking out 2-batters through 2-innings of middle relief, while Christian Stolo allowed a hit while striking out 2-batters in the ninth inning. 
 
The Loons will play three more in Lansing Sat-Mon before returning to Dow Diamond to host the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers) Tue-Thur next week.
