The Great Lakes Loons played a rare weekday game at 12:00 to a small crowd against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on a beautiful day at Dow Diamond.   It was also dollar day at the Dow with hot dogs, pop and ice cream sandwiches for only one dollar.   The true die hard Loons fans showed up for the rare weekday game.

The Loons didn't play very good baseball on the day making several errors.   It was basic baseball that the players didn't make the plays that they are taught.  Manager Bill Hasselman pointed out that "We played sloppy, made some mistakes, threw to wrong bases and didn't field simple plays."

Cedar Rapids jumped out to a quick 7-0 over the Loons and went on to win 11-2.   The loss dropped the Loons to 4-3 on the season.  Starter Zac Bird in his 2nd start didn't pitch well again.  He only lasted 3.1 innings and allowed 6 runs in this outing.

It's a little early in the season to start making predictions on how the Loons will do in the 2014 season.  I'm encouraged by the play of 1st baseman Justin Chigbogu and see him hitting 20 plus home runs at the Dow Diamond.    The Loons will now play Quad Cities in a 3 game series before hitting the road for 6 game road trip.
