After completing their first series sweep of the 2016 season with a 4-1 victory over the Kane County (OH.) Cougars (Arizona Diamondbacks) last night, the Great Lakes Loons dropped the first game of a 3 game home stand against the Midwest League's top team, the Clinton (IL.) LumberKings (Seattle Mariners) 5-1 in front of 5,226 fans at Dow Diamond tonight.

The Loons managed a respectable 6 hits, but could only capitalize once after Gage Green's rbi single scored Brendon Davis to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning.

Great Lakes starter Caleb Ferguson (0-2, 4.50 ERA) was charged with the loss after giving up 4 runs (3 of which were earned) on 6-hits including a 2 run homer to LumberKing third baseman Logan Taylor (6) in the top of the third inning.

Ferguson struck out 7 Clinton batters in his 5-innings of work.

If there's a bright spot to the loss it's that the Loons -who currently have the lowest team batting average in all of minor league baseball- got hits from 6 different batters, 4 of which were from the bottom four spots in their lineup.

Davis, Logan Landon, Green, and Darien Tubbs all had hits tonight, while Saige Jenco and Luke Raley added individual hits as well.

Brian Bass (3.79 ERA) gave up 1 run, a solo home run to Clinton left fielder Gus Craig (3) to lead off the seventh inning. He allowed 2-hits and 2-walks while striking out two batters throughout his 3-innings of relief.

Alexander Hermeling (3.45 ERA) walked one and struck out 3 in the ninth inning for the Loons.

The Loons will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on the LumberKings in game two of this three game series at 2:05 pm at Dow Diamond.
