The Great Lakes Loons had an eighth inning meltdown, giving up four runs (3 earned) as they fell to the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) 5-3 at Dow Diamond tonight.

Loons reliever Dennis Santana (4-9, 3.08 ERA) was chased from the mound after an eighth inning collapse where he walked 3 of the first 4 batters. The Captains would go on to score four runs in the inning, taking a 5-3 lead which they would never relinquish.

Santana was charged with the loss after giving up 4-runs (3 earned) on 3-hits, 4-walks, while striking out four Lake County batters through 4.1 innings.

Jordan Sheffield (0-1, 4.15 ERA) and Luis DePaula (3-2, 2.70 ERA) shared the piggy-back start, combining to allow 1 run on 4-hits while walking two batters and striking out five through a combined three innings.

Andrew Istler posted zeroes across the board, striking out one batter in 1.2 innings of relief to close out the game for the Loons.

The Loons took a 3-1 lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Thursday night's come-from-behind dynamic duo Omar Estevez and Luke Raley led off the inning with back to back singles. Estevez scored on a wild pitch and Ibandel Isabel singled to score Raley.

Thursday night's other hero, Darien Tubbs then drove in Isabel with an rbi ground out rbi giving the Loons a short lived 3-1 lead.

Isabel finished 2 for 3 with a walk, an rbi, and one run scored to lead Great Lakes from the dish. Estevez and Raley were both 1 for 4 with a run scored each respectively to round out the Loons' scoring.

The Loons and Captains will be back at it tomorrow night for game three of this 4 game series. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm at Dow Diamond.
