Midland, MI:

The Great Lakes Loons (39-69) evened the series (1-1) with a 3-1 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers) in a rain-delayed game at Dow Diamond tonight.

The Loons took the early lead when recently acquired CF Chris Roller's (1) first hit in a Loons uniform was a solo home run to give Great Lakes a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.

Great Lakes added to its lead in the fifth when shortstop Jacob Amaya drove in DH Brock Carpenter (who had singled) with an RBI-single, before Great Lakes catcher Hunter Feduccia (who also singled) was driven in on a sac fly RBI off the bat of Loons LF Drew Avans for a 3-0 Loons lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Loons starter Daniel Uceta (5-6 3.25 ERA) put together a very good start, picking up his fifth win of the season while allowing just 2-hits, while striking out 4-batters through 6-scoreless innings tonight.

West Michigan would get on the board in the seventh when DH Dylan Rosa drove in Whitecaps CF Brock Deatherage with an RBI-single to cut the Great Lakes lead to 3-1 in the top of the seventh inning.

Great Lakes reliever Darien Nunez (2.76 ERA) replaced Uceta, giving up 1-run on 2-hits and 1-walk, with 1-strikeout throughout the next 2-innings, while closer Jaciel Alvino (sv5) picked up his fifth save of the year after allowing 2-hits with 1-strikeout to close out the ninth inning.

The Loons and Whitecaps will wrap up the series with the finale at 7:05 pm right back here at Dow Diamond tomorrow night.
