MIDLAND - The Great Lakes Loons staged their greatest comeback in regular season history with a walk off 11-10 victory over the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) in 10 innings Thursday night at Dow Diamond.  Trailing 10-4 entering the bottom of the 9th inning the Loons would proceed to score 6 runs after 2 outs in front of 5,239 fans.   Lake County had jumped out to a commanding lead after 7 innings with an 8-1 lead and it didn't look good for the Loons.

16 million dollar bonus baby Yadier Alverez would start the game for the 47-67 Loons.   He would last just 3 2/3 innings giving up 7 hits, 4 earned runs and striking out 3 batters.   What is impressive with this young prospect is the strong arm that consistently allows him to throw from 95-99 mph from the mound.  The Los Angeles Dodgers are banking on Yadier to be a star for them for many years to come.  With the victory the Loons snapped a 4 game losing streak and moved to 19-26 in the second half of play in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

The Loons who would bang out 12 hits on the night along with 3 home runs were lead by Omar Estevez and Garrett Hope who would have 3 hits each.  The excitement started in the bottom of the 9th inning after the first two Loons batters made outs.  Trailing 10-5 the Loons would load the bases for the excitement to start with Omar Estevez at the plate.  He would hit a 2-2 pitch over the outfield wall for a Grand Slam home run to bring the Loons to within one run.   That would set the for Luke Raley who then deposited a 1-1 pitch over the fence to knot the game at 10-10.   The next batter quickly ended the inning sending the game into overtime.

The Lake County Captains 59-55 on the season would go quietly in the top of the tenth inning 1-2-3.   The Loons again would start the inning again with the first two batter quickly making outs.  Then Garrett Hope would get on base and advance to second on a bad throw.  That set the stage for Darien Tubs who hit the walk off single scoring Garrett Hope and started the mob in front of the excited Loons fans.  The comeback would be the largest comeback victory in team history.   They now face the Captains for 3 more games at home at Dow Diamond.
