The Great Lakes Loons returned home to Dow Diamond to open a quick 6 game home stand with the Lake County Captains.  The Captains would fall behind the Loons in 2nd inning on a 2 run Home Run by Justin Chigbogu.  That would be all of the scoring for the Loons on the evening even though they would have 8 hits.   Alex Verdugo would pace the Loons with 2 hits in falling to 49-48 on the season.

Tommy Bergjans making his second start of the year for the Loons would pitch 5 innings giving up 4 earned runs while walking 2 and striking out 3.  His record for the year is now 0-1.   The Captains would stroke 11 hits on the night in chipping away at the Loons early lead.   They would score 3 in the 4th inning and one in the fifth inning to build a 4-2 lead.   They then get to the Loons bullpen adding a run in the eight and 2 more in the ninth inning.    5,231 fans would see the Loons fail to mount any offense after the second inning.

Great Lakes will face the Captains on Saturday evening with the theme being Storybook Princess night and fireworks to follow.   The ever popular Loons Hat giveaway will happen on Sunday afternoon at Dow Diamond with the kids eating free and running the bases after the game.   The Loons currently sit in last place in the second half of the season at 11-18.   Great Lakes will be appearing in the Midwest League playoffs starting on Wednesday September 9th against in state rival Lansing Lugnuts in the best of three 1st round action.
