The Great Lakes Loons began their 2013 campaign at the Dow Diamond for the start of their 7th season in the Class A Midwest League.   The Loons would drop their first game of the year to the Fort Wayne Tincaps 5-2.  The sunny day started with a parade through downtown Midland before the opening pitch was thrown.   Their were over 50 entries for this parade which is now becoming very popular with the Loons fans.  The players would ride along in the parade tossing candy to the kids in the crowd.

Back at Dow Diamond Loons President Paul Barbeau would have the place looking great for the first game of the year.  Despite some rough weather in the state the playing field looking in very good condition.   The 3,765 fans filed into the stadium with another season of Loons baseball ready to begin.   Tonight was also dollar night where the fans could purchase hot dogs, drinks and ice cream sandwiches for only 1 dollar.   The Loons also handed out the 2013 season magnetic schedule to all in attendance.

The Loons bats would remain cold until late in the game when the scored 2 runs in the 9th inning and only managing a couple of other real threats later in the game.  The game started in 55 degree weather with the sun shining but got cooler at the game went on.  Great Lakes starting pitcher Angel Sanchez would take the loss for the Loons and Jeremy Rathjen would be the only bright spot for the Loons with a couple of hits.

Great Lakes Loons manager Razor Shines is extremely excited about the prospects of this year's team.   Los Angeles Dodgers #1 draft choice in the 2012 Major League Draft will be playing at the Dow Diamond for the time being.  Shortstop Corey Seager the highly touted prospect has all of the tools to be a great MLB player some day.   I believe that he will move quickly through the Dodger organization.  So get out to the Dow Diamond to see the good player in action.  It promises to be an interesting season at the Dow.
