Great Lakes Loons in 1st Place in 2nd Half

Loon win over Dayton Dragons 4-3

The Great Lakes Loons start 2nd half of the season off on good start by taking the 2 0f 3 from the Dayton Dragons.   The Loons won Saturday night's contest 4-3 on a wild throw to 3rd base in the bottom of the 7th inning to go ahead 4-3. 

The Loons who have fireworks after every Saturday night game started the game out with their own fireworks.  They jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.   Now short their All-Star catcher Kyle Farmer who moved up to high Class A baseball and reliever Mark Pope on the disabled list their have come out swinging. 

Brandon Martinez pitched a strong game for the Loons except for giving up two home runs the 2nd one a two run shot in the top of the seventh inning to tie the score at 3-3.   The Loons would get the wining run in the seventh on two straight singles by Brandon Trinkwon and Josmar Cordero.    Trinkwon would score from third after the throw to thrid went wild and allowed him to score.  

Manager Bill Hasselman continues to run Loons on the bases to start the second half even if they get thrown out at the base.   He is going to make things happen for the Loons.   Jesmuel Valentin lead off the game with a long home run in the first inning.  

Today's game will feature a baseball clinic starting at 12:00 noon before the 3:05 p.m. start.   The kids get to run the bases after every Sunday home game.    The fireworks after the game kept most of the 4,100 plus fans in their seats for the 10 minute show.
