The Loons dropped the final game of the series to the Lake County Captains 6-3 in a quiet evening at the Dow Diamond. The weather played games through out the day with some bad weather going through Midland about 3 hours before game time. However the skies cleared and the Loons played in front of about 1,700 fans.
Lake County Captain Claudio Bautista was the star of the night hitting two home runs in the windy game at Dow Diamond. His first shot cleared the park and landed out on Buttles road just outside of the ballpark. His second long ball was a 2 run Home Run for the Captains to put them up and seal the 6-3 victory for the worst team in the Midwest League.
Great Lakes now hit the road to face in state rivals the West Michigan Whitecaps and the Lansing Lugnuts for 3 games each before returning home. With a win the Loons would have pulled to .500 on the season but now stand at 28-30 in a fast approaching end of the first half of the season.
Loons starter Zac Bird fell to 3-8 on the season. He consistently touches 91 -93mph on the radar gun but doesn't have good movement or location on the ball. The Captains roughed him up with 8 hits on the evening. Alex Santana and Brandon Trinkwon lead Great Lakes with 2 hits each on the night.
It would be nice to see the parent club Los Angeles Dodgers send some more talent to the Midwest League team to help them for the second half of the season. Landing a playoff spot for the 1st half seems out of the question at this point. Unlike previous seasons where the Dodgers have placed a few talented name players this is lacking this year. Oh well there is the whole second half to root on the Great Lakes Loons.
