Great Lakes Loons defeat 1st Place Lansing Lugnuts

Loons hold on for a 7-6 win in front of large crowd

The Loons fighting to finish at .500 for the 1st half of the season defeat the Lansing Lugnuts 7-6.  The Midwest League's best team the Lansing Lugnuts came into tonight's game with a 46-20 record but ran into a hot Loons team.  Loons starting pitcher Arismendy Ozoria pitched a very good game for the (33-35) Loons on a hot Friday evening at Dow Diamond.

Great Lakes jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after two innings on some timely hitting.  Nick Akins and James Baldwin each drove in runs.  James Baldwin stole another base to be up among the league leaders in stolen bases in the 1st half of the season.  The Loons have missed out on making the Midwest League playoffs for the 1st half of the season but could finish with a .500 record if they could record two more wins against the Lugnuts. 

The last two games of the series will see the Loons facing All-Star pitchers from the Lugnuts who have already enjoyed the best first half in the their history with 46 wins.  Justin Nicolino and Aaron Sanchez will face the Loons in the final two games of the first half.  Then the League will take a four day break for the Midwest League All-Star Game this year hosted by the Kane County Cougars. 

Attendance at Dow Diamond has started to now pick up with the warm weather here to stay.  The Loons have finished strong at the end of the first half of the 2012 season.  They have the pieces to make a strong run for the a position in the Midwest League playoffs in the 2nd half of the season.  So get out to the Dow Diamond and enjoy some professional baseball and cash in on some of the great promotional offers that the Loons have through out the season.
