The Great Lakes Loons dropped the final game of the 2015 regular season to the West Michigan Whitecaps.   The Detroit Tiger affiliate beat the Los Angeles Dodgers farm team 3-1 in 10 innings today at Dow Diamond.  The Loons finish the season with a 68-69 overall record and 30-39 in the second half of the season.  The attention now turns to the start of the Midwest League playoffs with the Loons hosting game one in the first round against the Lansing Lugnuts on Wednesday September 9 at 7:05p.m.

The game was rather uneventful until the top of the ninth inning.   The Loons put together 3 hits in the bottom of the 2nd inning with Brian Wolfe scoring the only run through 8 innings.  Then in the top of the ninth the Detroit Tigers 1st round draft pick in the 2015 draft Christin Stewart hit a solo home run to tie the game.  The Whitecaps then would score 2 more runs in the top of the tenth inning on some sloppy play to go ahead 3-1 which would be the final score.

Great Lakes starting pitcher Nolan Long pitched 5 strong innings giving up no runs and striking out two.  The Loons would have two hitters get 2 hits each Michael Ahmed and Justin Chigbogu.   West Michigan was paced by A.J. Simcox with 4 hits on the day.    The Loons would play in front of 3,378 fans in the regular season final game.   Plenty of tickets remain for the 2015 Midwest League playoffs at the box office at Dow Diamond.   The starting pitcher for the Loons on Wednesday will be 2014 1st Round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers Grant Holmes who is 6-4 on the season with 3.14 ERA.
