MIDLAND, MI - The Great Lakes Loons struggles continued in the second half of the Midwest League season.   The Loons dropped a 6-2 contest to the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate) at Dow Diamond.   The highlight of the evening was an appearance from the Detroit Lions Gridiron Greats series this season at Dow Diamond.

Herman Moore and Lomas Brown appeared and threw out the first pitch then signed autographs for hundreds tonight.   The games are well attended when ever the Lion's greats come to town.  Tonight with some very violent weather earlier in the day didn't stop the fans from coming out.

The Loons now with the #1 draft choice of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2016 draft is now playing in Midland.   Will Smith out of the University of Louisville is now catching and batting third in the Loons line-up.   Tonight's game was highlighted by two Dragon players with starting pitcher Jacob Constante going 6 1/3 innings and only allowing 1 run.   Chris Okey lead the Dragons in hitting with 3 hits including a home run and double.

Meanwhile the star of the game for the Loons would be DH Erick Meza who stroked 2 hits.    Great Lakes only managed 6 hits on the evening.   They did also use four pitchers during the game.   Great Lakes drops to 6-9 in the second half and 35-50 overall.   If the Loons are planning on making the Midwest League playoffs in 2016 they need to pick it up a notch and start winning games.    They need to get there overall record back to .500 and that would mean they are having a good second half.    I'm not banking on it this season based on what I have seen.
