“For the Love of Fabric” by Susan K. Pack – part of Art @ Andersen – is on display now through October 31, 2023 at the Andersen Enrichment Center, 120 Ezra Rust, across from Ojibway Island in Saginaw. Hours are from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Pack uses her lifetime love of sewing, weaving, and various traditional needlework skills in her works. Stretching those traditional boundaries, she manipulates fibers and materials to realize the possibilities in abstract compositions. She combines natural fiber materials and found objects in nature to create two-and three-dimensional works, with the object sparking that idea of direction.
Pack earned a B.F.A. from Ohio State University. She added an Art and Psychology teaching certification from Saginaw Valley State University. She designed and implemented the Art Across the Curriculum program at the Saginaw Art Museum and various Art grant programs in Michigan. She has exhibited her work in the United States and the Netherlands.
Using her knowledge of fiber skills and art, she volunteers in her community at Hemlock High School and the local library. She continues her journey as an artist taking classes and is inspired by other artists’ work. Susan is always looking for the next inspiring found object.
She works from her studio in Hemlock, Michigan.
Art @ the Andersen is made possible with the support of the Maxwell K Pribil Memorial Trust, Jury Foundation, Harvey Randall Wickes Foundation, and the Michigan Arts & Culture Council. This project has been established by the Saginaw Arts & Enrichment Commission to give artists in the Great Lakes Bay Region an opportunity to exhibit and sell their work.
