The FNV Griffins H.S. Hockey team rallied with a late goal to secure a 3-2 victory over the Petoskey H.S. Northmen at Saginaw Bay Ice Arena tonight.

Petoskey forward Max Scholl (Sr.) had scored an unassisted goal at 14:13 of the third period to tie the game at 2 goals apiece.

Just 28 seconds after Scholl had tied the game, FNV forward Kenny Kujawa (Jr.) beat Petoskey goal tender Taylor Troxel (Jr.) for his second goal of the night at 14:41 of the third period to give his team a 3-2 lead it would never relinquish. John Paul LeFevre (Fr.) had the lone assist on the goal.

Troxel managed to keep Petoskey close with a gritty performance in between the pipes, turning away 30 of the 34 shots he would face from the Griffins.

The Griffins opened the scoring midway through the first period when Sean Nowosatka (Jr.) beat Troxel with a backhand-to-forehand deke to take a 1-0 lead at 13:45, with assists from Kujawa and freshman defenseman Jack Ruppel.

Petoskey forward Mitch Forton (So.) scored the equalizer at 6:13 of the second period to tie the game at one goal apiece with the lone assist coming from sophomore Taylor Fettig.

Kujawa answered, putting the Griffins back up 2-1 at 9:24 of the second period with assists from Nowosatka and sophomore Conner King.

FNV goal tender Jordan Tafel (Sr.) stood tall for the Griffins stopping 22 of the 24 Petoskey shots on goal tonight.

Scholl and Forton led the Northmen with one goal apiece respectively, while Kujawa paced the Griffins with a 3-point night (2-goals, 1-assist). Nowosatka added 2-points (1-goal, 1-assist) as well for FNV.

The Griffins (3-5) will head up to Petoskey for a 2-game tournament at the Petoskey Winter Sports Park Ice Arena next weekend, before returning home to host the Mid-Michigan Storm (Gladwin, Ogemaw Heights, Beaverton, and Harrison H.S.'s) at Saginaw Bay Ice Arena Wed. evening for a 7 pm. face off.
