The FNV Griffins dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bay Area Thunder at the Bay County Civic Arena Wednesday.

FNV head coach Ron Miller has been dealing with a decimated roster all season and Wednesday's lineup was -by far- his thinnest yet.

The Griffins were without 3 -of their top- 4 goal scorers. The teams leading scorer, Griffen Medina (soph.), Ben Rybicki (Sr.), and Brice Leuenberger (Sr.) were all out Wednesday night. Also not dressed were defensemen Joe Rybicki (Sr.), Brandon Schlitt (Jr.), and Adam DePelsMaeker (soph.).

Despite a lineup that included 2-freshmen, 5-sophomores, and 4-juniors the Griffins were able to make it a pretty close game against one of the better high school hockey teams in the area.

The Griffins were able to keep the game close due to the play of seldom-used goalie Eric Gaudreau (Jr.), who played the game of his life, stopping 45-of the-48 shots he faced from a never ending barrage of Thunder snipers.

Bay Area senior Lucas Rafaill beat Gaudreau for a 1-0 lead at 12:32 of the first period and senior Tyler Parmentier found the back of the net just before the end of the first period at the 15:17 mark for a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The Thunder would add a third goal from senior Alex Freeman at 6:30 of the third period. FNV sophomore Sean Nowosatka scored the only Griffin goal at 15:51 of the third period with assists from Connor King (Fr.) and Tanner Hare (soph.).

The Griffins will try to get things back on track next week on Senior Night when they will host Petoskey H.S. Saturday Feb. 27 at Saginaw Bay Ice Arena for a 5:00 pm face off.
