The Saginaw Art Museum is conducting a trip to the Grand Rapid Art Museum on Saturday, January 8th to view the award-winning exhibition of Diana: A Celebration, which commemorates the life of one of the 20th Century’s most remarkable figures, Diana, Princess of Wales.

Among the artifacts on display, participants can view Diana’s magnificent wedding gown, including the diamond tiara, veil, 25-foot train, shoes and parasol. In addition, one of the nine exhibition galleries displays 28 dresses, suits and gowns designed by Versace, Valentino, Chanel, and Azagury, among others.

According to Nigel Barker, renowned fashion and beauty photographer and judge of the hit television show America’s Top Model, says of this exhibition: “Diana was one of the 20th century’s greatest fashion icons, taking risks with unheard of designers such as the Emanuels for her bridal gown. Many of these designers became darlings of design, and she dared to buck the royal trends and be her own lady.”

Also on display is the original text of Charles Spencer’s tribute to his sister delivered at her funeral in Westminster Abbey. The collection also includes the musical score and handwritten lyrics of the Elton John composition dedicated to Diana and adapted from his Candle in the Wind.

Participants can also tour through the life of the ‘Peoples’ Princess’, viewing home movies of Diana’s childhood, personal letters and photographs, Family heirlooms, including diamond tiaras and priceless family jewels are also part of the exhibition.

The Spencer Tiara, made of Gold and Silver, was worn by Lady Diana at her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981. Remounted in the 20th century, the Spencer Tiara is believed to have been made in 1767; but the style would suggest that it dates to around 1830. The gold tiara was designed in the form of scrolling foliage with tulips and star shaped flowers decorated with diamonds in silver settings. The small scrolls at either end are what remain of an earlier setting from which the tiara was made.

The bus will leave at 9:00 AM on January 8th and return at approximately 5:00 PM. The Diana exhibition tour lasts approximately 90 minutes. Lunch will be enjoyed at the Amway Plaza Hotel by the river. The Blue Line Bus is equipped with a full bathroom facility and charge for this excursion is only $50.00.
