The red hot Detroit Tigers are moving closer to first place in the Central Division.  The Tigers jumped on the Los Angeles Angels today 5-1 to have won 9 out of  their last 11 games.   They now are 1 1/2 games behind the Division leading Chicago White Sox who come into Comerica Park for a 3 game series this weekend.

Max Scherzer threw 7 innings of 3 hit baseball and allowed only 1 run while striking out 9 Angels.  Playing under overcast skies and a light rain for 1 1/2 innings Scherzer was in command the entire time.  Playing in front of almost a full house with 40,311 fans in attendance in a rather quick game in 2 hours and 47 minutes.

The Tigers were lead with home runs Alex Avilla and Miguel Cabrera to pace the 5-1 win.  Prince Fielder contributed two hits to help spread the offense around.  Max Scherzer getting 9 strikeouts today moved him back into fourth in the Majors with 134 strikeouts on the season.

With the past two strong pitching performances the Tigers are now on a roll and playing like the team many thought they would.  Now the important 3 game series with the White Sox the Tigers could jump into first place in the Central Division by the end of the weekend.  The crowds are coming back to Comerica Park and you can feel the excitement of the crowd walking into the Park.  Much like last year when the Tigers went on a roll at the end of the season.
