Central Michigan University played an excellent football game during the 1st half against Monmouth University.   It's first time opponent watched the Chippewa's storm out to a 31-3 halftime lead.   The second half of the contest was entirely a different story.   The Monmouth University Hawks would score on the opening drive of the second half to make it a 31 -10 game which would end up being the final score.

On a cool cloudy day at Kelly/Shorts Stadium in front of 21, 092 fans would see CMU quarterback Cooper Rush have a big day in the passing department.   He would finish with 328 yards on 25 for 36 passing and 3 TD's.   Most of his production would come in the first half.   The CMU running game which is still trying to sort itself out would finish with 106 yards basically between 4 running backs.   CMU exploded for 24 points in the 2nd quarter alone.   The game was all but over at halftime.

The Chippewas would move the ball up and down the field in the second half but would never really threaten to score.   The big play in the first half was an 83 yard TD pass from Cooper Rush to Ben McCord.   The Chippewas will have to play with a little more intensity the next two weeks facing some big time competition with games at Syracuse and then traveling to East Lansing to face the Michigan State Spartans.    All in all it was a pleasant afternoon in Mount Pleasant as the Chippewas moved to 1-1 on the season.
