Anita Baker Makes Rare Appearance at Saginaw\'s Temple Theatre

Just say the word Anita Baker and the first thing that comes to you is that voice - the lady has found her way into the hearts and homes of millions with her excellent songs and timeless pipes.

This eight-time Grammy Award winning vocalist from Detroit has hit another stride in her career now spanning over 25 years and is bringing her jazz/soul style to Saginaw at the Temple Theatre on Friday, Nov. 30.

The smooth songstress returned to the limelight in 2004, releasing My Everything to worldwide critical acclaim and going Gold along the way. Songs such as Sweet Love’ Caught Up In The Rapture, No One In The World, and Giving You The Best That I Got, made her a household name throughout the '80s and into the '90s. Even with a ten-year break in between album releases, Baker has withheld her position as one of the all-time vocal greats.

In 2005, she released Christmas Fantasy, her first Holiday album. Harnessing the power and grace of her dynamic vocals, she has been featured on everything from movie soundtracks to a tune on Duets with Frank Sinatra for his 1993 album, delivering jazz like no other, much to the appeal of her fans.

Baker co-wrote eight tracks and arranged all ten songs on her newest album, My Everything. Like You Used to Do is a duet with Kenny (Babyface) Edmonds, I Can't Sleep is her cover of the Yellowjackets jazz tune on which the group joins her and Men In My Life is a sincere tribute to her husband and her sons.

Just as soon as she decided to get back onstage, the word got out, taking the singer around the country before crowds of excited music lovers overwhelmed by her return.

"I needed to get away to rest, to take care of my family and to just spend some time with Anita, and my husband and my boys," she is quoted as saying in her biography for her last CD.

In the time away, her singular and stellar voice could still be faithfully heard on R&B, Jazz and Adult Contemporary stations throughout the nation.

The Temple Theatre is located at 203 N. Washington Ave. in Saginaw.  Box-office hours are Monday - Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am – 5pm. 

As always, there will be free parking and shuttle service from the Saginaw Tower, 515 N. Washington, two blocks north of the Temple.
