Posted in: Concerts

Memorial Presbyterian Church of Midland will hold a tribute concert Sunday, February 19, 2023 at 4:00 pm honoring Robert Sabourin, former Director of Music at Memorial for over 20 years. He later became the organist and music director for Trinity Episcopal Church in Bay City. Sabourin was an accomplished organist and choral conductor. He taught choral music at Northeast Middle School and Midland High School over his 30 year teaching career. The Memorial Presbyterian Church Choir will be joined by alumni from the Midland High School Choirs, Meistersingers, and Exultate Deo. Exultate Deo is a chamber group previously led by Robert Sabourin, which frequently shared Evensongs and other sacred music events. Music will include some of Sabourin’s favorite sacred anthems: God Be In My Head (Sir. Henry Walford Davies); And I Saw a New Heaven (Malcolm Archer); Jesu, the Very Thought of Thee (Eric Thiman); For the Beauty of the Earth (John Rutter); My Song is Love Unknown (Arr. James Kirkby); other sacred pieces and hymns. Combined choirs will be directed by Megan Farison, Director of Music Memorial Presbyterian Church. The Midland High Alumni and Meistersinger Choirs will be directed by Daniel Farison, Midland High Music Teacher. The Exultate Deo chamber choir will be directed by Rayechel Berger, Choir Director at Trinity Episcopal Church. Dr. Adrienne Wiley, Sub-Dean, Saginaw Valley Chapter, American Guild of Organists, and Professor of Music at Central Michigan University will be the organist. Friends of Sabourin will offer brief reflections on his music ministry. The public is invited to this free concert. A reception will follow the concert.
