Legislators Ready Sanctions, Asset Freezes, & Tariffs Against Canada Over Toxic Wildfire Smoke

With 700-plus active wild fires burning in Canada last weekend, tens of millions of Americans across the Midwest and eastern U.S. were exposed to toxic wildfire smoke, impacting not only the health of its population but also damaging its Summer Tourism economy while forcing Amusement Parks like Cedar Point to close and outdoor concert events to be cancelled.

In response, Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) provided new color about his bill to sanction Canada over the toxic wildfire smoke that has created an environmental disaster across numerous parts of the United States. 

"We're going to put sanctions on them, hold their assets, make sure they don't have visas, and impose tariffs because we have to ensure that the people suffering are compensated," explains Moreno.

"This is an abject, avoidable disaster and it’s not due to climate change. It's due to leadership change in Canada that's caused this problem.”

Moreno told Fox News that the US will be sanctioning Canada due to the deteriorating air quality from the wildfires. “We're going to put sanctions on them, holding their assets, making sure they don't have visas, and we'll put tariffs because we have to make sure the people suffering get compensated. This entire catastrophe could have been mitigated through proper forest management.”

President Donald Trump also issued the following statement: “We are holding Canada responsible for the fact they are not properly maintaining their Forests and Brush therin, and the United States is being unnecessarily invaded by filthy, polluted, and unhealth air, the quality of which is dangerous and totally unacceptable. The cost is incalculable!

“Canada has refused to engage in basic Forest Management and Debris Removal, knowing that such refusal will lead to exactly this result. This is Willful Negligence and becoming a yearly occurrence, costing the United States billions of dollars, which must of necessity be added to the Tariffs Canada is currently paying.”

Our Country Our Choice reported that Canada is burning 700-plus active wildfires, with 8.2 million acres destroyed, noting that ‘This doesn’t feel like normal wildfire season anymore. It feels like a war on our forests. OCOC is run by retired U.S. Army Colonel Douglas MacGregor.

"The Canadian parliament & Mark Carney's decision not to do the most basic forest maintenance out of climate activism stupidity is now threatening hundreds of millions of Americans with carcinogens," Daily Signal's Tony Kinnett wrote on X.

Additionally, four Republican members of the House blasted left-wing Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in a letter, criticizing his liberal government for not doing enough in terms of forest prevention management.   "This is the third consecutive year we have had to write to Canadian officials about a crisis that Canada has the tools to prevent and has chosen not to," wrote Republican Reps. John James (Mich.), Jack Bergman(Mich.), John Moolenaar (Mich.) and Lisa McClain (Mich.).

Air quality readings in cities including Detroit, Milwaukee, and Toledo exceeded 500, well above the 300-threshold level considered unsafe. Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis, and Toronto also recorded unsafe levels, while conditions in Washington, Philadelphia, and New York deteriorated into unhealthy territory. Indeed, at the height of the smoky apocalypse, Detroit, Chicago, and Minneapolis represented three of the four worst major cities for air quality on the entire planet.

“Canada continues to fail to manage its forests,” wrote the environmental nonprofit American Conservation Coalition. “Controlled burns and thinning and clearing debris would go a long way toward preventing this from happening every summer. Much of the left-wing media points to climate change, while rarely covering forest management failures.”

Geo-Engineering Also Suspected

Continent covering firestorm smoke canopies are also being utilized as a form of geoengineered solar radiation management, where rather than the fires being caused by an ‘Act of God’ they are more specifically and purposely ignited to temporarily cool vast regions through creating migrating expanses of highly toxic smoke.

A plan to block sunlight from hitting the surface of the earth in a bid to halt global warming is done through a process known as solar radiation modification (SRM).  A supercomputer called Derecho is analyzing the effects of solar geoengineering to help climate scientists decide whether SRM will be a good idea.

Acxcording to Dane Wigington, founder of GeoengineeringWatch.org, geoengineering projects of various kinds are already having severe impacts on weather patterns, along with our ability to grow food, biodiversity and human health.

Policymakers in the European Union recently called for an international assessment of geoengineering risks, noting that: "These technologies introduce new risks to people and ecosystems, while they could also increase power imbalances between nations, spark conflicts,  and raise a myriad of ethical, legal, governance and political issues.”

According to Scientific American, the supercomputer called Derecho will help climate scientists decide whether to block the sun: “A new supercomputer for climate research will help scientists study the effects of solar geoengineering, a controversial idea for cooling the planet by redirecting the sun's rays”.

The machine began operating in July of last year at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and will allow scientists to run more detailed weather models for research on solar geoengineering, said Kristen Rasmussen, a climate scientist at Colorado State University who is studying how human-made aerosols, which can be used to deflect sunlight, could affect rainfall patterns.

Geoengineering Is the Biggest Contributor to Climate Change

A geoengineering map created by the ETC Group and the Heinrich Boell Foundation, shows how geoengineering projects have expanded from some 300 in 2012, to more than 1,700 in 2023. Intentional geoengineering — including solar dimming — has been going on for more than 70 years and has exponentially expanded in more recent years. This includes carbon capture/removal, solar radiation reduction and a variety of weather modification projects worldwide.

Broadly, geoengineering programs were initially implemented after World War II, starting in the polar regions.

For years, anyone who said that geoengineering and weather modification was being used was labeled a tinfoil hat-wearing conspiracy theorist.  As it turns out, with the White House report just released, mainstream naysayers are suddenly admitting it as well.
