Saginaw Citizens Rally Against Overtaxation, Media Bias, and Government
Overreaching. About 120 chilly Saginaw Citizens spread out over two blocks in front of WNEM-TV5 on Sunday October 18 to make their voices heard. The TV5 venue was chosen to emphasize the media bias of network stations, accused of ignoring Tea Party and 912 citizen protests.
Some protestors carried signage that demanded fair and balanced
coverage of all sides of the
debate between advocates of private sector capitalism and state
socialism. Other locals protested the Saginaw City Hall effort to
lift the Saginaw Property tax cap, urging a NO vote on proposal 8.
City Council has placed 8 proposals on the ballot for November 3rd.
Each of those proposals tends to give government more power, raise
taxes, and reduce already lacking levels of transparency and
accountability in city government, and so many citizens are simply
calling on voters to vote no on all the proposals.
The peaceful crowd sang God Bless America, the National Anthem, and
said the Pledge of Allegiance together. Motorists passing by
honked and waved to show solidarity with the protesters, who stood
vigil in the cold for two hours. Before disbursing, the crowd
cleaned and policed the area, removing any litter so as to set an
example of personal responsibility.
