The 95th Michigan State Legislature Presents Review Magazine with a Special Tribute for 30 Years of Making a Difference

It is with great honor that Review Magazine editor & publisher Robert E. Martin received a Special Tribute presented to Review Magazine by nine members of the 95th Legislature and the Governor on Monday, August 10th.

“Your publication has given not only the people but certainly all of the legislators of the mid-Michigan area an invaluable forum to present their views and opinions in detail, especially through your Candidate Forums; and you have not been afraid to hold politicians accountable,” commented State Senator Roger Kahn, whom presented the special tribute to Martin.  “I know you’ve certainly held my feet to the fire on occasion,” quipped Kahn.

“This is a great honor and I am deeply appreciative of the sentiments expressed by it,” stated Martin. “The publishing and delivery of news and investigative reporting is rapidly changing, but the fundamentals remain the same, and the Review intends to reinforce its roots of print journalism while expanding into the new frontiers of electronic news delivery with several innovative platforms in the months ahead.”

The Special Tribute by the 95th Legislature at Lansing, written on July 8th, reads as follows:

LET IT BE KNOWN, That it is with great pride that we join with the good people of the Saginaw Bay Region in recognizing Review Magazine on its 30th year in circulation. Throughout the last 30 years, Robert Martin and the entire staff at Review have provided our people with up-to-date news, commentary, event information and community impact stories. We thank them for the positive impact they have had on our entire region.

In April 1979, Robert E. Martin started what is now known as Review Magazine with a limited budget and a great deal of determination to provide the people of the Tri-City area a link to the arts, entertainment, sports and political communities. Starting with a circulation of just 1000, Review has grown into a must-read publication, now printing 20,000 copies each month, with an average readership of over 50,000. Not resting on its laurels, Review Magazine has expanded its impact in the community many times over the years, not only launching new columns, but also establishing the nationally known Review Music Awards Ceremony, a Grammy’s-type ceremony for Bay Area musicians.

The magazine has also provided hard-hitting news stories of great interest and tremendous impact to our people. The magazine has had exclusive interviews with well-known celebrities and political figures like Janet Jackson, Brian Wilson, Ted Kennedy and Michigan’s last three governors. Review has also provided investigative reporting on stories such as the fraud that was occurring within the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the misspending of taxpayer dollars by our local units of government, and analysis of how the Federal stimulus program is being distributed throughout Michigan.  Review Magazine’s persistence, hard work and excellent reporting has greatly benefited our people over the last 30 years.

IN SPECIAL TRIBUTE, Therefore, This document is signed and dedicated to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Review Magazine. We congratulate all those involved with the magazine over the last three decades, and wish it continued success for what we hope to be many more years in print.
