Too Good To Be Local Rock Fest
Whites Bar * Saturday, August 20th By Robert E. Martin As the 'dog days' of summer start to wind down and students prepare to return to school, Tim Avram of The Mongrels is assembling a stellar showcase of young Punk & Alternative oriented bands from across the country for his 2nd Annual Too Good To Be Local Rock Fest, which is slated to happen at White's Bar on Saturday, August. 20th, both inside the bar and outside on the parking lot from 2:00 PM - 2:00 AM.
"A lot of the bands we are featuring this
year we met through
Myspace.com, this really
cool website that allows bands from all over the country to network,"
explains Tim. "Myspace has taken my band The Mongrels to venues
like CBGBs, and we have played with national acts like The
Subtones (Marky Ramone's band), The Mansfields, and Reno
Divorce because of the site. Plus we now play all over the country."
Bands booked thus far for this musical
extravaganza include The Mongrels, Astra, Stamp'd, Miscreants, Ominus,
The Whiskey Diaries (Detroit); Jonny Mohawk & the Assassins
(Ohio); Superccharged (Port Huron), Johnny Mundane & the Sweet
Spots (Detroit); Mahoney (formerly Sprout & the Orange), and a
few more not yet confirmed as of press time.
Apart from music two small swimming pools
will be set up, Rick Davis will be doing tattoos for people,
50-cent hot dogs will be available, and one or two special surprises are
in the offering. "You never know what the day will bring," notes Tim.
"Last year we had a big pyro show when we played."
Be sure to mark this Saturday on your
calendar - it should once again be a unique day for music and fun at
White's Bar.
Milly Siegrist Benefit Concert Baywood Lounge * Sunday, August 28th
Another important event to mark on your
calendar is the Benefit Concert for Milly Siegrist, which is
slated for The Baywood Lounge on Sunday August 28th
from 3 PM - 12 AM.
Bands slated to perform include host band
Sugar Buzz, DR2, Pressure Point, 3-Mile High and more. Your
$7.00 donation for admission includes a spaghetti dinner, 50/50
drawings, and several great prizes. People are also encouraged to
donate items (with the exception of clothing) for a Rummage Sale that
will be held at The Baywood.
