Y-Vibe Finals Showcase Young Artistic Talent:

Gala Event Scheduled for Friday, April 22nd at the Creative Spirit Center in Midland

By Robert E. Martin

With a legacy of producing world-renowned musicians such as Bob Seger, Madonaa, Stevie Wonder, Ted Nugent, Kid Rock and Larry McCray (to name but a few) the need to foster and cultivate musical talent among young people has never become more important.

Thanks to the nurturing and enthusiasm of The Creative Spirit Center, more than 20 budding young musicians turned out for the Y-Vibe Auditions held at the Center on February 25th. Performers ranged in age from 13 to 18 years old and came from all over Mid-Michigan.

Co-coordinator Kimberly Megoran, of Kimberly & Company Communications, as well as a local performing artist, jumped into the project with immense enthusiasm. "With all the social challenges that young people face in life, it is incredibly important for us to support and foster creative values such as art and music in our young people," she notes. "I was amazed at the level of young talent out there. The auditions were amazing and I was proud of everyone who showed up to perform and to dream big. I am excited and honored to be working with the Creative Spirit Center in developing this talent show."

After auditioning the 20-plus performances, a panel of 4 judges determined eight finalists for the final April 22nd show. This was the first-time for this event and all involved were amazed at the variety and awe-inspiring nature of the talent displayed.

"Y-Vibe was a great success. There was so much variety and energy in the performances. Everyone that auditioned should be proud of their talent," said Colleen Jarema of Creative Spirit Center in Midland.

The Center hopes to continue to work with young musical talent in this area while hosting Open Mic in the future, as well as developing song-writing clubs for those interested in growing their skills. "Y-Vibe is just a jump-start to introduce these new opportunities at the Creative Spirit Center," adds Megoran.

With the vast array of talent, judges had quite a challenge in narrowing the performers down to eight lucky finalists. The chosen eight performers will be competing for over $600 in prizes, a cover story in Review Magazine, a guitar from Mid-Michigan Music and other great prizes.

The finalists, in no special order, are as follow:
* Erin Yanacek, trumpet, 15 years old, Midland
* Jon Rajewski, singer/guitar, 18 years old, Midland
* Hope Currie, singer/piano, 13-years old, Au Gres
* Sean Megoran, singer/guitar, 18 years old, Midland
* Rachel Gonsior, flute/piano, 18-years old, Midland
* Morgan McMillon, Saxophone, 16-years old, Saginaw
* Jessica Carrick, singer/guitar, 17 years old, Midland
* Ethan Szymanski, bagpipes, 14-years old, Midland

The final performance should prove to be a fun and energetic event where the eight finalists will be treated like celebrities when they roll up from a ride in a limousine and step onto the red carpet, fans and paparazzi eagerly awaiting.

The final performance will be held on Friday, April 22, 2005 from 7-10 PM at Creative Spirit Center, located on 1571 Bayliss Street.

Midland's Creative Spirit Center welcomes you to come witness these talented musicians give it their best in the final competition. You'll be shocked and amazed by the caliber of skill and ability these young performers display.

Admission is $3.00 and reservations are suggested, as space is limited. Call Creative Spirit Center to save your seats at
