Saginaw's Robert Bradley  Finishes HBO Special &

Returns to Whites For Pre-Thanksgiving Bash

by Scott Baker

Robert Bradley has been hanging out in 'Ego City' lately, learning a new profession.
Saginaw's top R&B blues-rock man has been filming a 'Made for HBO'’ movie in Hollywood while taking his first summer off in about four years from touring.

Out next February will be the new HBO film Lackawanna Blues, starring Oscar winning actress Halle Berry and Bradley as an old bluesman.
"It's about '40s and '50s and '60s", said Bradley during a phone interview this week. "I'm playing a blues singer, a mentor to a little kid."

Having filled the shoes well, Bradley was heard as a musician and picked to audition for the role.
"Some people heard me sing and thought I would be the right person," said Bradley. "I went to audition against about ten other guys and I just got the part. It's a movie with Macy Gray, Mos Def, Jimmy Smith, a bunch of well named (musicians) in there. It should be a good movie. I think it's going to be a great movie."

"I'm singing two songs and being an actor, you know. It should be alright."
Gone all summer, Bradley is wrapping up the movie and getting ready to start the follow-up to Still Loving You.

"That movie - I was back and forth to California. Hanging out, out there. It's a different world, I'll tell ya' that for sure. It's ego city. Everybody's got an ego out there."

"I got to go back and finish up the movie. I've got to do voice-overs and all that type of stuff. I took the summer off basically and spent some little time at home. I've been gone for the last few summers in a row."

Rolling towards the studio, Bradley is in the midst of a Fall tour to keep the sounds in the air.
"We're just working on a new record. (We hope) it'll be out the same time the movie is, so we're getting the sounds together, rehearsing, you know."

For a quick hometown surprise, Bradley will be at White's Bar on Wednesday, November 24th, the evening before Thanksgiving.
"Gotta keep the flow going," quipped the vocalist. That's why we're doing White's. I like to be up at White's every now and then."

On top of the new movie, new album plans, and the fall tour, Bradley has found some time to write for a possible spot on the Lackawanna soundtrack.

"I'm trying to write the top song to it, to open the soundtrack," he said. "I don't know if they're going to take it, but I'm working on it now. You never know with Hollywood."
With all this going on for Bradley, home is still where the heart is.

"Without a doubt. Tell the people to come out the night before Thanksgiving. It'll be a good show."
