Editor's Note:
Throughout this special commemorative issue we
have presented photos, commentary, and profiles on the top winners that were
honored in hopes that it will give you both a flavor and sense of the dynamics
not only of that special evening, but of the talent throughout the tri-cities
that continues to define the sound of our area and make it truly a 'hotbed' of
entertainment.
It is not an easy task, conducting elaborate
nominating procedures, tabulating ballots, locating musicians, sending out
invitations, and planning an ambitious ceremony of this nature; but then
nothing worthwhile ever is easy.
What truly excites me most about this annual
ceremony is that it connects people, audience and artist together. Winners are
determined by the public at large, not by some select 'committee'. And in the
final analysis every musician nominated is a 'winner', for how can there truly
be a 'loser' when it comes to the gifted pursuit of creativity.
Finally, while conformity, indistinguishable
top-ten radio play lists, and mass commercialism may pose dangers to growth
and evolution, it excites me now as it did 18 years ago to know that the
tri-city musical heritage continues to write its own song and step to its own
drummer.
