LETTERS - Hate Mail for the New Year Dear Mr. Martin, I really don't mind the "tilted" view you have in this periodical. After all, REVIEW is a tilted magazine anyways. However, it would be nice to read BOTH sides of an issue, especially when it comes to politics. It must be very hard for you and all of your liberal friends to actually have to hate this country in order to succeed politically. Somebody once said "Shame on you, Mr. Bush", well I would have to say now, "Shame on you, Mr. Martin". Sincerely yours, A. Wartenberg Saginaw, Michigan Editor's Reply; Thanks for your comments regarding the last 'Year in Review' edition. Since the inception of The Review nearly 25 years ago, the primary purpose & intention regarding political matters has been to maintain and establish an independent voice that digs past the falsehoods, propaganda, and 'spin' that permeates much of what passes as 'news' these days. Obviously, as Editor & Publisher the significance of maintaining a factually accurate medium is of utmost importance. Indeed, in matters of controversy we always strive to present all sides of an issue - especially with regard to investigative features. However, with editorial oriented material - such as the 'Year in Review' wrap-up, the focus is upon condensing the key stories of the year in a limited amount of space and supporting whatever viewpoints are presented with factual statistics. You may regard this as 'tilted', but an important component of all critical thought is a 'point of view'. I do not hate this country. On the contrary, I love it with a passion - which is why many of the courses we have adopted over several decades cause me great consternation. My views may not fall in with mainstream popularity; but I am an open individual, and willing to look at evidence & opinion of all variety. Should I feel that my perspective is erroneous on some point, I am the first to admit it. In fact, if I were to 'succeed politically' at this I wouldn't be stating here that much to my chagrin, my views often comprise a 'minority opinion' - but then I've never based success upon what is fashionable, only upon the importance of people looking at their world with open eyes. Frankly, I was brought up that the only shame is in keeping silent by failing to summon the courage to speak up when you feel your voice needs to be heard. And after all, that's what we're fighting for; correct? The freedom to speak honestly about what we believe is true. Again, I thank you for giving expression to your opinion. Have a nice holiday, Bob Martin Editor & Publisher Review Magazine The Review welcomes your letters and comments. Please send all correspondence to: Letters to the Editor, Review Magazine, 318 S.
