Rock Legend Kathi McDonald to Play at White's Bar, Aug. 24th. By Robert E. Martin Kathi McDonald West Coast rock music legend Kathi McDonald will be appearing at Whites' Bar on Sunday, August 24th, and even for those unfamiliar with her name, chances are you are more than familiar with her remarkable voice. In fact, it could be fairly stated that McDonald is perhaps the best known female vocal accompanist in the annals of Classic Rock. Kathi McDonald has sung on over 200 albums, 50 of which have either gone gold or platinum. She has the unique distinction of being the only Caucasian 'Ikette' for Ike & Tina Turner (a gig which lasted three years); and she also took Janis Joplin's place in Big Brother & the Holding Company. For me, McDonald did her most memorable work in the late '60s and early '70s, singing vocals on Leon Russell's Shelter People albums, sharing the microphone with Rita Coolidge on Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen, and working with Elton John on Tumbleweed Connection. This was followed by stints with Willie Dixon, Dr. John, Buddy Guy, Long John Baldry, and The Who. She also sang back-up vocals on the Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street. Kathi will be performing with The Kate Hart Band at the White's show, consisting of some of the top session players in the metro Detroit area. White's is located at 2609 State Street in Saginaw. The show starts at 9:30 PM.
