Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Reflections
By Ed McArdle

Christmas - the most honored and joyous occasion each year. And with good

reason as this celebratory season brings a special, almost magical spirit

to one and all.
Why can't the feeling of goodwill that annually accompanies this Holiday

stay with us all year round? I constantly ask myself that question. It

does not seem that hard to live each and every day as though it were

December 25th.
Having love and togetherness present throughout the year among our fellow

man would be a great attainable goal. Wouldn't the world be a better place

if everyone constantly felt the same way?
With that wonderful thought in mind Paul O'Neill of the Trans-Siberian

Orchestra authored a beautiful, inspirational and heart-warming Christmas

story that encompasses the Christmas dream and sends a truly meaningful

message.
It centers on kindness shown toward others in their time of need and

symbolizes what is often considered God's greatest gift- the sharing of

love.
The Trans-Siberian Orchestra performed in Detroit on Saturday, Dec. 1st.

They have released pair of Christmas albums in the past 5 years. I have

loved and admired the inspirational music provided by this group since

their formation in 1996.
They cleverly combine traditional heavy metal guitars, bass and drums with

piano, full orchestra, children's choir, interchangeable vocalists

(including female leads and back-ups) and a narrator- about 50 performers

in all (dressed in tuxedos no less). Quite a novel approach to a rock

opera.
As we enter the great Holiday Season I will offer a sampling of my favorite

uplifting emotional moments of lyrical prose contained therein for you to

reflect upon.
I'm sure you will agree that these words speak very loudly and convey the

true meaning of Christmas.

We can all learn from this spirit of hope...
"So tell me Christmas

Are we kind?

More this day than any other day

Or is it only in our mind

And must it leave when you have gone away

It's different now

It's changed somehow

And now you're here to stay"
"If you want to arrange it

This world you can change it

If we could somehow make this

Christmas thing last

By helping a neighbor

Or even a stranger

And to know who needs help

You need only just ask"
"Christmas time and the year will soon be leaving

Cloaked in time till it's just a memory

Christmas stays if we don't forget its meaning"
"If our kindness

This day is just pretending

If we pretend long enough

Never giving up

It just might be who we are
"And now the time has come

When all the world is one

And as we mark the old year's passing

Strangers meet on every street

And suddenly there's good will everywhere

There's Christmas in the air"
"All at once the world

It doesn't seem the same

And in a single night

You know it all has changed

And everything is now as it should be"
"And the dream is still alive

From that first December morning

And it always will survive

As long as we can see

That the dreams we find in life

Are the dreams we tend to seek

And Christmas has its promises to keep"
"And so it's good that we remember

Just as soon as we've discovered

That the things we do in life

Will always end up touching others"

Care to investigate further? Check out the masterful Trans-Siberian

Orchestra CDs "Christmas Eve And Other Stories" (1996) and "The Christmas

Attic" (1998). I honestly feel that they will impact your life as they did

mine.
In life we are all pursuing magic. So as we gaze upon that brightest of

stars on this holiest night and revel in its glory the understanding that

each of us has the power to make it reality is apparent in its light.
Who is to say this wonderful holiday spirit can't last all year long? Believe!
