The Outer Limitz Comes to Bay City... By Jack B. Tany And then there was light. And fog. And finally, music. When you add the three together it's transformed into the area's newest entertainment complex, the Outer Limitz Night Club in Bay City's Historic Midland Street area. The futuristic club, which is set to open in October, is located at 505 E. Midland Street. Outer Limitz is the brainchild of brother combination Paul and Glenn Stine of Saginaw, who serve as club managers. The bar formerly housed the Sawmill and Bon Ton watering holes. The Stines have spent the last five months fastidiously renovating the bar with new electricity, plumbing, carpeting, sound system and lighting. "We've had a lot of hoops and hurdles, but we've given the place an entire facelift," said Paul Stine, a Douglas MacArthur High School graduate. Neon lights in the front entrance will help welcome partygoers to a complex never before seen in the Tri-Cities. It features high-tech 'intelligent lighting' which is made up of track spots, techno beams, cyber lights, strobe lights and an MLC controller. "We flew in a light technician from Atlanta (Georgia) to program different patterns and programs and to choreograph the light show," explained Stine. "A fog machine, which is controlled by the light tech, was added to enhance the lights." A total of 56 black lights throughout the nightclub give the facility a 3-D effect . . . and an Outer Space affect. The wall-to-wall carpeting in the bar area features an outer space theme with rocket ships and planets which literally jump from the floor because of the black lights. There is an area for dancing which includes a unique Outer Limitz logo in the center. The entire dance room is 34 feet by 54 feet and dancers will view light beams which project 3-D pictures. Dancers can cool off by sipping a drink or two from the new back bar which serves both the dance room and the billiard room. Revelers will listen to a speaker system made up of four Double-18 sub woofers in each corner and four JBL mid-high packs which are flown in the ceiling and gives the night club stereo surround sound. A house DJ will spin Top-40 Dance tunes on Thursday, Top-40 High Energy on Friday and High-Energy Techno on Saturday evenings. "What he (the DJ) plays will be determined by what the crowd wants," said Stine. The 42-foot bar is considered the longest bar in Bay City. Rope lighting behind the bar will help illuminate the area for patrons and workers alike. Outer Limitz, which caters to the 21-and-over crowd, is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to close, with Friday being Ladies Night. Stine noted that live entertainment might be added on Wednesday nights in the future. He added that for 'off nights' the club is available to rent for parties, meetings and various other entertainment functions. "I think we have things that will make people ooh and ah enough to make them come back," said Stine.
