Dear Valerie By Valerie Markva
Dreamweaver Dear Valerie I have read your column in every issue since you began and find myself looking forward to reading each issue to see what new advice and stories there are to tell. My reason for writing, however, is one of a spiritual concern. The past few years I have been having dreams of things happening to someone or something I know. These things usually happen after the dreams. However, some have already occurred without me knowing prior to my dreams. Talk about ESP! Also, I have had the feeling that someone or something is around me. At times, when I know I'm alone, there seems to be someone whispering my name or other things. An incident happened Thursday night, Aug. 31st, 2000. I put my kids to bed and after I watched the news, I went to bed. As I was lying in bed, I had this overwhelming feeling that someone was in the room with me. I usually sleep with my back to the door. When I would roll over and look, nobody was there. I think this went on for about 30 minutes. Finally, I decided to face the door and the feeling of someone being there subsided. Eventually, I fell asleep. I've always been fascinated with ghosts and spiritual things. Can you help explain these dreams and strange feelings to me? What do you suggest? T.P. Spiritually Helpless Dear Spiritually Helpless, ESP and precognitive dreams can be a very interesting subject, especially when they are your own dreams. In David Fontana's book The Secret Language of Dreams, he states that "belief in the predictive power of dreams is as old as written history." Today, this belief still survives. It is not uncommon for people to report experiencing 'déjà vu' and having predictive dreams about family members and loved ones. There are many famous reports that have been collected in relation to the foretelling of disaster in dreams, in which cases the person who had the dream is then able to avoid catastrophe seconds before it occurs. Your ESP dreams are, in fact, not unusual. However, this phenomenon is a mystery and there are no real explanations for the reasons why we have this kind of dream and what causes them. There are several dream theorists that offer suppositions, but not many. It is my personal belief that we may have dreams about our loved ones that predict an event or distress in their lives, simply because we are sensitive people and are able to pick up fragments of another time (past or present) which are delivered to us in the form of a dream. In regard to your feelings that something that you cannot see surrounds you at times, I have come up with a few theories that may interest you. I have written several stories and papers on the subject of the spirit world: angels, demons, ghosts, etc., and have done a lot of research. I am inclined to believe that these entities are very real and do exist in the material world. Again, I think our capacity to sense these spirits rests heavily upon our level of sensitivity; our ability to perceive and feel the world around us. It sounds like you have a lot of type of sensitivity. This is a good thing because it can give you a deeper understanding of your own emotions as well as the feelings you have for people you love and care about. If you think there may be an invisible entity around you, it's important for you to learn about this type of thing so you may understand what you're dealing with. Some people call being 'sensitive' to these things a gift, or being psychic. It's not uncommon for this 'gift' to run in families, and it might be helpful to talk to your family members to find out if they've had similar experiences. If so, find out how they've dealt with it. You may be surprised to discover some interesting things! I also recommend that you pick up a copy of The Other Side and Back by Sylvia Browne. This book will provide you with many intelligent answers and explanations about the mysterious 'other side' of the spirit world. Good luck in your quest to understand this special gift. We have all been blessed with different gifts, making us unique human beings. It's important to recognize there are ways to put our talents & abilities to use in ways that will help others & us in a positive way. The Ancient Rhyme Derived from ancient lore & Christianity, Temperance represents virtue, warning against the danger of indulgence and excess. She is portrayed pouring one body of water into another, symbolizing the need to create balance and harmony between emotion and actions. She also carries a sheathed sword, a symbol of control, victory and wisdom. At her side, an hourglass poses as a reminder of mortality, the cycle of life and death, heaven and earth.
Temperance's Tip: Balance begins with control and wisdom is gained
through silence, creating harmony in our lives.
"God has put something noble and good into every heart His hand
created."
