Through 'TheMindzi' of a 'Mastamind'

By Sensei
For those of you who don't know, or those with a narrow view of

hip-hop that won't allow NATAS as a guiding force of Midwest Rap music,

listen up.
At the heart of the group is a young rapper named Mastamind, the key writer

for all NATAS albums and recently named to Murder Dog magazine's 'Most

Underrated Emcees'.
After being part of a team through five NATAS albums, Mastamind has stepped

to the forefront to release his full-length album, The Mindzi. As I wrote

the previous sentence I could almost hear the die-hard fans screaming 'What

about Lickkuidrano', Mastamind's solo EP that to some is a Detroit classic.

Released with no airplay and little promotion it sold surprisingly well.
However, as Mastamind will tell you, "I was just a young buck and I really

didn't have anything to say. But if you liked Lickkuidrano, you'll love

TheMindzi'. This album is 200 percent better," he boldly states. "200%

better production, 200 % better rhyme content!"
"The new album is a combination of Detroit Rock City, Detroit Gang S#@t,

and the wicked Acid Rap," says Mastamind, describing TheMindzi.

Determined to prove his originality, the new album features only one guest

appearance with the Detroit Godfather Esham blessing the standout track,

Warriors, with his 'Out Ya Atmosphere' production and commanding lyrics.
"TheMindzi is see the game through my eyes, so it doesn't make sense to

follow the trend of excessive guest appearances," he barks. "People always

tryin' to get fame over another person's name."
The album's first single, Forever, is an infectious track with 808 bass

drops laced throughout and a catchy almost commercial hook. The track has

started to receive spins on radio and the video is being serviced to the

culture rapping mega-station MTV next month. However, don't look to see

Mastamind appearing on TRL anytime soon. As Mastamind puts it: "My music is

for the Detroit street corners. I will always bring the wicked s#&$ like

nobody else and the wicked s#*% will never die!"
Mastamind's 'The Mindzi' is released on GothomOvercore/TVT Records October

24th. You can meet Mastamind and see the video Forever on Oct. 24th at Hot

Hits Detroit at 5:30 PM and on October 25th at RecordTown in the Genesee

Valley Mall, Flint at 6:00 PM.
