Dear Valerie By Valerie Markva
Valerie: Hi, thank you for listening to my problem. I'm 38 years old and I keep getting turned down when I ask a lady out. I'm tired of this. Can you give me some help? Frederick D of Saginaw
Dear Fred: This is a difficult question to answer without knowing the particulars of your situation. Maybe you haven't been looking in the right places. Think about the women you ask out: Do they have similar interests and goals?
Tip: Look for friendships first. Sometimes more can follow, but don't let is worry you if it doesn't. It's never a waste of time if you've made a good friend.
Places to go, people to meet: Singles dances, church groups, community Ed classes (classes are a good place to meet others who have similar interests) dating services (check out our personal ads), volunteer work, support groups.
Good luck and remember to have confidence in yourself and keep thinking positively!
CONTENTMENT Written on an old card, which I have saved from childhood, is the words: 'Contentment is understanding that if I am not satisfied with what I have, I will never be satisfied with what I want." Beside these words is a painted illustration of a lion looking down at her cubs as they cuddle at her side. The corners of the card are torn and the words faded; yet it contains a powerful but simple message.
It's important to feel rich today, without money; to feel powerful even though there are many things that constrict all of us; to feel strong despite the areas in which we are weak.
Now is the time to pay attention to the little things, which are indeed, blessings in our lives. Many of us spend a lot of time trying to get what we want, and it's hard work that can result in a great sense of restlessness and discouragement.
However, we can enrich our lives through finding ways to add to the lives of our families and friend, and by becoming aware of what we have to offer others. This kind of positive distraction helps us take our minds off of what we want because we're thinking instead about what we can give.
The Ancient Rhyme of Myth Her name, Persephone, meaning "she who brings destruction", indicates that she is an image representing the darkest parts of the human mind. Greek mythology insights that when Persephone is underground, flowers and plants cannot bloom on earth. When she emerges, she brings forth the fertility of spring.
Persephone governs an uncomfortable dark knowledge and also reveals unique wisdom.
Persephone's Tip: The fruits of destruction are a necessary part of all life and creativity. Regard yourself with compassion. Confront fear in times of neglect and failure to learn what may be gained and created when destruction has passed.
Tristan I touched your soul In silent hours - No one could hear Your screams And sailing swiftly past you Blue Blue Embryonic sea of words Not understood And desire Blew like ash upon your fierce wind And I stand To face you now Stranger A shattered reflection In the glass, You are but a dream Best forgotten.
