May 31: "Catch Me If You Can" Fishing Festival for Children & Young
Adults-Held
at the William H. Haithco Rec. Area, Saginaw. Win prizes for
catching "the big one" and, new this year, come and see boats and
recreational equipment along with learning more about fishing. You
can make a fish print shirt to take home! If you don't know how to
fish and do not have the equipment, the first 200 contestants will
receive a free fishing pole! Supplies and people to help you fish
will be on-site. Win trophies and all children registered will be
entered into a drawing to win a free charter fishing trip!

take place throughout the day: From 9am-1pm there will be a Boat &
Rec. Show; Lunch, (adults will pay $3 extra) at 11:15am; Awards & Prize
Giveaway from Noon-12:30pm. Please bring a bucket to transport
your fish to the measuring station. Bait will be sold on-site.
May 24: Saginaw Sting Indoor Arena Football-Saginaw Sting vs.
Chicago Slaughter. Game begins at 7:30pm, held at the Dow

Jun. 7: Kid's Free Fishing Fun Day-The 28th Annual Kid's Fishing
Day will be held at Ojibway Island, Saginaw, from 8-10am. The
contest is for children ages 3-15 years. Registration begins at
7:30am at the Island. The first 400 children will receive a
goodie bag and snack. Please bring your own fishing pole and bait.
There will be many prizes including bicycles and fishing gear given away
this year. No pre-registration required, (registration will be
held on the Island the day of event.)
Jun. 17: Annual Scholarship Golf Scramble-Held at The Sawmill
Golf Club, Saginaw. 8am registration and 9am shotgun start.
$100 per golfer, $400/foursome includes 18 holes and cart, lunch at the

AUDITIONS
Jun. 18-19: Auditions for "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe"-Auditions
are held from 6:30-8:30pm, held at the Bay City Players, Columbus Ave.,
Bay City. Please arrive a few minutes early to fill out audition
forms. Director Robin Devereaux is looking for 16 speaking
roles, male & female, ages 8-17 and 8-10 "extra" roles for ages
8-17. Also needed are youth to work with lighting, sound,
backstage, costumes and publicity as well as several parent volunteers.
Performance dates are Aug. 7-10. The play tells the story of 4
children who go to live with an old uncle during WWI. While
playing hide & seek, Lucy, the youngest of the children, finds a
wardrobe which leads to a magical land called Narnia. However,
Narnia is being ruled by the evil White Witch who has made it snow for
100 years, and, according to an old prophecy", Edmund, Lucy, Peter and
Susan the "chosen ones" who will defeat the witch. They are
assisted by the true ruler of Narnia, the lion, Aslan. Auditions are
open to the public & newcomers are welcome! Those auditioning will
be asked to read selections from the script. Scripts are available
from the check-out from the Bay City Players office for a $10 refundable

May 23: "Daddy Long Legs" The 1955 movie with Fred Astaire
and Leslie Caron. An Oscar-nominated musical about a millionaire
who falls in love with an 18-year-old Parisian orphan and becomes her

May 23: The Valley Film Society of SVSU Film Selection Meeting-The
membership will nominate films for the next season of the VFS.

events will take place at over a dozen venues throughout Saginaw and the
Celebration Square area. The list of events includes: Concerts,

Exhibitions, Nature Hikes and much, much more! Many of these

Jun. 2: Tasty Tales presents a "Read & Feed" program for children

Jun. 7: Walking History Tour-"Ghosts Up
Close"-Ghosts-Legends-Crimes. Take a walk back in history and hear

Jun. 9-19: Library's Summer Reading Program for Children, Teens and
Adults-"Catch the Reading Bug", the Public Libraries of Saginaw is
holding a free program designed to encourage reading all summer long.
To sign up, simply visit any Saginaw library branch from June 9th
through June 19. Participants will receive a reading record to
mark off time spent reading, listening to audio books or listening to
someone else read. All those completing the reading goals will
receive special Summer Reading Program incentive prizes, such as a color
changing cup, back sacks, lunch coolers, and T-shirts. Adults who
complete the program will also be entered into a special drawing for
prizes. The last day to report & receive prizes is July 26, 2008.

Pere Marquette passenger depot and an 1880's manual interlocking tower,
a massive and ever-growing HO Scale layout in the basement of the
Museum, several pieces of rolling stock including two cabooses, a rare
outside-frame wood boxcar, and a 1930's C&O crew car, which houses the
Etter Railroad Library. See two locomotives currently undergoing
restoration, 1943 US Navy yard engine, a rare Alco RS-1 locomotive and

Thru Jun. 8: Lois Teicher-"A Sculptural Retrospective, 1979-2008"-On
view will be more than 50 works, including major fabricated metal
sculptures, maquettes, (small models of planned sculptures), and
whimsical drawings spanning her career since 1979. Teicher's
monochromatic works consist of forms reduced to simple, geometric
shapes, utilizing modern materials and technology. Lois Teicher's
work can be seen at the Saginaw Art Museum, Saginaw.

Jeremy Wallace, facilitator. Held at the Saginaw Art Museum,

From the Permanent Collection-Ongoing Exhibits at the Castle Museum
of Saginaw-"Lady Justice"-In the Mid-1800's on rooftop parapets of
the Old Saginaw County Courthouse, four ten-foot statues made of zinc
were installed. In the 1970's, the statues went missing and Lady
Justice was found in a cornfield up north and purchased by Executive
Director Irene Hensinger who wanted the statue to be placed on top of
the Clock Tower, but the condition was too fragile. She has been
donated to the Castle Museum for all to see. "Revealing Our Buried
Past: The Archaeological Story of the Saginaw Valley"-This exhibit
tells the story of Saginaw Valley's rich archaeological history through
carefully designed combination of text, professional photographs, video
and artifacts spanning over 5,000 years. Learn about the native
peoples and changing geography of the region. See this incredible
story fro the glacier era to the first European contact. Located
in three newly renovated rooms on the lower level of the museum.
"The Gig"-The 1859 lifeboat that survived 1700 miles of the Pacific
Ocean after the U.S.S. Saginaw was shipwrecked and on display in
Centennial Hall. Don't miss the harrowing story of five men how
manned the lifeboat to save their crewmates. "Spendless Seemore
Circus"-In several alcoves of the museum, this homage, an annual
South Middle School fundraiser which began in the 1930's to keep the
school afloat during the Great Depression, can be seen. Being such
a success the event was continued into the 1950's. The exhibit
consists of photographs and ephemera related to this fun, memorable
piece of Saginaw's history. Also on exhibit: Stop by and see the
Mobile Kaleidoscope and be amazed as colors and textures meld into
incredible moving designs! Post Office Gallery-An homage to the
Museum's original use and features a video on the history of the Castle
Post Office and access to the Catwalks used by postmasters as an
early form of worker surveillance. The Castle Museum is

Jun. 12-15: MATRIX:MIDLAND Festival presents Dream Engine-The
innovative Dream Engine, a creative company from the UK, will
perform their unique free, outdoor performances at the parking
lots of Midland Center for the Arts and at Dow Diamond. The
visually stunning, large-scale aerial performances fuse the daredevil
with beautiful acrobatic work. There will be two different
performances: On June 13 & 14 only-they will perform
"Heliosphere"-a weightless aerialist suspended beneath huge
helium-filled balloon explores the uncharted space between street level
and rooftops. The Heliosphere rises and falls to a wistful musical
soundtrack as the Helionaut tumbles and turns with balletic grace and
beauty At night, the Heliosphere becomes alive with internal
color-changing light show. The next show, held on June 12 & 15,
will be "The Conedancers"-This show offers a 21st century maypole
tradition that parodies every folk dance you have ever seen! Two
aerialists, bathed in music and light, walk up the sides of an 8-meter
high, air-filled cone where they begin to dance, tumbling and turning
around opposite sides. Acrobatic and upbeat, passionate and
moving, this US premiere of Conedancers is a spectacular performance of
suspended choreography. The troupe will perform a 20-minute show,
twice daily, June 12-15, and alternating their locations between the
Midland Center for the Arts parking lot and the Dow Diamonds.

90: The Bay City Players will present four concerts by Kevin Cole.
